Fermi Wang is a distinguished technology executive, serial entrepreneur, and leading authority in video processing and edge artificial intelligence. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Ambarella, Inc., a semiconductor company he co-established in 2004. Under his leadership, Ambarella has emerged as a global innovator in edge AI and computer vision, developing high-performance system-on-chip (SoC) solutions that enable advanced video compression, image and radar processing, and deep neural network capabilities for intelligent perception, sensor fusion, and autonomous decision-making. Ambarella became a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ stock exchange in 2012 (Ticker: AMBA).

Dr. Wang holds numerous patents in digital video technologies, including essential patents that contributed to the development and standardization of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/AVC formats. Prior to founding Ambarella, Dr. Wang was the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Afara Websystems, a company recognized for its groundbreaking work in high- throughput computing architectures for enterprise servers. Afara's multi-core, multi-threaded processor design, known as Niagara, was acquired by Sun Microsystems in 2002 and subsequently integrated into Sun’s  UltraSPARC processor family.

In addition to his contributions to the technology sector, Dr. Wang has served as a Trustee of Columbia University since 2019, where he provides strategic guidance and governance to support the institution’s academic mission and global initiatives.
